OMV / Petrom Brazi Refinery

Objective: building two green hydrogen plants from renewable sources to supply the Petrobrazi refinery and the new SAF/HVO unit.

Project objective: building two green hydrogen production plants through water electrolysis, using renewable energy, to supply the Petrobrazi refinery and especially the new sustainable fuels unit (SAF/HVO).

Total capacity: ~55 MW (two plants: 35 MW and 20 MW).

Estimated impact: production of ~8,000 tons of green hydrogen/year, which contributes to a ~70% reduction in CO₂ emissions in the biofuel production process compared to conventional fuels.

Energy infrastructure in the project:

  • renewable energy – the ~7 MW photovoltaic park at PETROBRAZI to supply green energy for internal consumption, including for the hydrogen plants.
  • the sustainable fuels unit (SAF/HVO) under construction includes two hydrogen plants (20 MW and 35 MW electrolysis plants) that will be integrated into the general refining and biofuel transformation process.
  • 110 kV GIS – including connection to the National Energy System (SEN).
  • connection to the refinery’s internal energy network and potential external flows for supplying the hydrogen plants.
